If you’re looking for a diamond that is ethically sourced, eco-friendly and more affordable, a lab-grown diamond might just be the right choice for you!
Although identical in appearance to natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds have very subtle differences that can only be detected by trained Gemmologists and special equipment. Lab-grown diamonds look and sparkle just like natural diamonds, and they’re available in all kinds of shapes, sizes, cuts and colours too. If you had a lab-grown diamond and natural diamond in front of you, it would be impossible for you to tell the difference!
Natural diamonds are created over billions of years due to intense heat and pressure within the Earth. In order to mine diamonds, an estimated 100,000 tons of rock must be mined and searched through in order to find a jewellery-worthy diamond. As you can imagine, mining natural diamonds through that much of the Earth on a regular basis is not very sustainable.
On the other hand, lab-grown diamonds are created by scientists and can be made in only a matter of weeks! Although the creation process is very different, there are minimal chemical differences between the two. Natural diamonds can contain a minimal amount of nitrogen, whereas lab-grown diamonds don’t. Due to the billions of years it takes to create a natural diamond, Earth’s diamond supply is limited. Unlike natural diamonds, there is no limit on the supply of lab-grown diamonds. This increase in supply means that lab-grown diamonds are easier to produce and significantly lower in cost.
Lab-grown diamonds are increasing in popularity and are a great option to consider for your next jewellery purchase. Want to learn more about lab-grown diamonds? Visit us in-store or give us a call at 905-852-7846 and our jewellery experts will be happy to answer any of your questions!
